I Want This

The Melting Clock is inspired by the famous Dali painting “The Persistence of Memory”, the well-known surrealist painting introduced the image of the soft melting pocket watch. The clock was designed to be used on a shelf or hanging on your office desk. Although awkward, it is balanced as a common clock and its mechanisms work perfectly. A cool gift idea!

Digitally capture what you draw!

WACOM INKLING

Wouldn´t it be great if your ideas began as sketches on paper, and automatically became vector graphics?.Inkling is a Wacom pen that has a small receiver device that you attach to any paper or sketchbook, together they capture every stroke of your work of art. You can then convert your design to digital via USB, it then becomes a vector drawing! you can now edit your drawing in any image editing software, how awesome is that? How to Design Browser Themes

The web browser is probably one of the most frequently used applications on a person’s computer. For designers and developers, a browser theme can be canvas that provides hours of exposure to the artist or brand willing to create a theme for their fan base.

But with such an extreme landscape orientation and a range of functional obstructions, designing browser themes is a creative endeavor with plenty of pitfalls and gotchas.

There are many things to consider when approaching a new theme — from avoiding copyrighted images to achieving designs that work within the confines of a particular browser. Read more

The Mobile Wallet in Detail

Mobile Wallet

Two very interesting articles I’ve recently read about the mobile wallet:

Article 1. Swiping is the easy part

The cellphone has been more than a cellphone for years, but soon it could take on an entirely new role — standing in for all of the credit and debit cards crammed into wallets.

Instead of swiping a plastic card at the checkout counter, consumers would merely wave their phones. Read more

Article 2: Can the mobile phone beat the hype?

Depending on your level of involvement in the digital industry, you might not have heard of near field communication (NFC) or you’ve heard so much of it you’re starting to wonder if it’s all hype.

NFC relies on an underlying technology that wirelessly identifies objects from a short distance through tags that are inserted into pretty much anything. The benefit of NFC over something you’re probably more familiar with like RFID, which is used in key fobs and current forms of electronic payment like PayPass, is that it can send and receive information two ways, where RFID is limited to sending information just one way. What Is The Future Web?

What is the future of the internet

Interesting article from Smashing Magazine:

Designing for the future Web. That’s a big subject. Where do we start when we’re talking about something that isn’t here yet?

In this article, we’ll look at what the future Web might look like and how we can adapt our current skills to this new environment, as well as how to create fluid websites that are built around a consistent core and that adapt to the limitations and features of the device on which they are viewed. We’ll also look at how our conceptual approach to designing websites should evolve: designing from the simplest design upwards, and not from the richest website down.

But before we get to that, let’s start with a question. What do we mean by the “future Web”? Read more
