Something for the DJ’s

I’ve been meaning to get this up for a while. I know there are a few DJ’s out there that have been looking for a clean full instrumental of Drake’s Take Care album; so here it is!

This is a song for the genius child.
Sing it softly, for the song is wild.
Sing it softly as ever you can -
Lest the song get out of hand.

Nobody loves a genius child.

Can you love an eagle,
Tame or wild?
Can you love an eagle,
Wild or tame?
Can you love a monster
Of frightening name?

Nobody loves a genius child.

Kill him - and let his soul run wild.

- Langston Hughes

New Concept Work: Complex Magazine

Like so many others , I’ve been caught up in the wave of success that Drake and his OVO (october’s Very Own) team has experienced lately.  Not only am I a fan of Drake’s, honest flow, crazy beats and inspirational lyrics – I’m also a fan of the business he and his team are building. The OVO team makes their own beats, create  in-house graphic designs and marketing…the list goes on. Basically, this team control Drakes image, by designing album artwork, designing clothing, blogging. The OVO team understands they have a powerful brand in Drake, they’re making up the rules as they go doing so much on their own terms.

Anyway, one day I would love to work with entertainers, publishing houses, etc. to create unique work in a way that the average person sanding in line at Barnes & Nobles would notice – and have to at least take a glance at the work.

Here’s my attempt to create a cover for Complex Magazine. This is a fictitious cover I designed to commemorate one of my favorite albums and artist this year, Mr. Rager AKA Kid Cudi

Something Worth Considering: JeffStaple the truth 1585 Collection

Graphic designer, fashion designer and all around street wear /lifestyle icon, Jeff Staple recently launched a new collection with centered around evoking positive change in the lives of many of his consumers.

I read this headline today on Hypebeast and 2 things jumped out at me immediately, “Jeff Staple” and the “truth collection”. “With its self-titled motto, “a positive social contagion” serving as its foundation, jeffstaple and his namesake creative agency, Staple Design Today, Staple announces his latest socially conscious collaborative effort alongside the truth campaign. Named after the campaign’s unique Pantone color, the “truth1585 Collection,” takes aim at spreading a message to “Open Your Eyes” to the lies and manipulations around you.”

I’m inspired by, and driven to create around  ideas similar to this. Design has the power to change people’s thoughts, perception and focus. This power can be but to good use (which doesn’t occur often enough) or it can be used to negatively influence society.  Hats off the Jeff Staple for making another move in the right direction.

Read more about the project and view the gallery, over at Hypebeast.
