REDESIGN FAV PT. 4

PwC New Identity

Price Waterhouse Coopers (officially), “provide industry-focused assurance, tax and advisory services to enhance value for their clients.” They’ve recently made an official announcement that PricewaterhouseCoopers would be changing its name to PwC, keeping the mouthful of a name as the full name of the global organization for legal purposes. PwC also introduced a new identity created by the London office of Wolff Olins (featured above). source: BrandNew

REDESIGN FAV PT. 3

Another one of my 30 min. favs:

In January of 2008 the mother of all talk show hosts, Oprah Winfrey, announced she would be launching her own network debuting in 2009. “The new multi-platform media venture,” read an ancient press release, “will be designed to entertain, inform and inspire people to live their best lives.” Then 2009 and 2010 happened and the network did not launch. But for those who are patiently waiting to be inspired to live their best lives the wait is now almost over. The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) will launch in January of 2011, coinciding a little bit better with Oprah putting a lid on her talk show, which goes off the air in late 2011 after 25 years of televised emotional tugs. OWN is set to replace the Discovery Health Channel and will be owned 50/50 by Discovery Communication and Oprah’s production company Harpo. Earlier this month OWN unveiled its new look. For the third time. source: BrandNew

30 min Redesign Favs

I’m a huge fan of UnderConsideration.com’s “Brand New” site!  Sometimes I run across logo redesigns that, excuse me for sounding too brash, I feel I could have designed better.  When I can’t resist, I give myself 30 min. to redesign certain logos that catch my eye.

I’ve decided to post some of my favorite redesigns here.  Enjoy!

United Airlines New Identity

“The new logo displays the combined company’s brand name in capital letters (UNITED) in a custom sans-serif font, joined with the global mark which has represented Continental’s brand image since 1991.

A corresponding update of the combined airline’s aircraft livery will adopt Continental’s livery, colors and design, including its blue-gold-white globe image on the tail, combined with the new-style UNITED name on the fuselage.”

I’ve got this new obsession

well, maybe I shouldn’t call it an “obsession”, but I’m really in to the idea of creating “visual music”. What’s visual music? It’s my way of visually interpreting music that inspires me or I connect with.

I love it when an artist creates a song that feels like a soundtrack to a chapter of my life – a song that I can identify with from beginning to end.

I read design and photography blogs daily, and sometimes I run across images or designs that I connect with, but don’t really have the need to use them at that moment. Typically what happens is I save these photos and designs in a stock folder of mine to pull from when I find the need.

Although, none of these artist or groups asked me to design for them it still feels good to finish their story with a visual element.  Since I don’t have time to spend the necessary hours creating the artwork; I decided to give myself 30 mins. to design and post my work to my blog. Maybe, one day I’ll post my favorite work to my portfolio.

Peace and enjoy

Change a lot this holiday season

I’m a huge fan of GOOD Magazine, particularly for their interest in finding new ways to solve problems with design. They’re holding a poster design contest to promote alternative gift giving this holiday season.

The assignment called for a well-designed piece that  encourages people to give during the holidays, and also expresses the impact that contributing some of these gifts to the developing world would have. We want to see something that might make someone change their minds about how they are going to spend their money during the holidays, because they can see the impact that their gift might have.

Teaching Design for Change

Really cool and inspirational, something I’d like to get involved in. I’m actually still watching now..

…”Emily Pilloton established Studio H in North Carolina’s rural Bertie County to use the principles of design to engage high school students and bring new opportunities to an economically stressed area. You might remember that we awarded her a spot in the inaugural GOOD 100; in the time since, she continues to amaze. Here’s a look at her recent TED Talk: “Teaching Design for Change.” Source: TED
